Caribbean Export takes the Direct Assistance Grant Scheme Workshop to Guyana
Bridgetown, BARBADOS, April 22, 2013. The Caribbean Export Development Agency (Caribbean Export) will be delivering a workshop on their Direct Assistance Grant Scheme on April 23 and 24, 2013 at the Pegasus Hotel, Guyana. The workshop is it’s 2nd for the year following Caribbean Export’s mission to Belize earlier this month. The Direct Assistance Scheme Grant Workshop will continue to move across the CARIFORUM states as Caribbean Export undertakes the execution of the Regional Private Sector Programme (RPSDP) funded by the European Union under the 10th European Development Fund (EDF).

The Direct Assistance Grant Scheme Workshop is brought to Guyana in collaboration with Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Guyana Office for Investment.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop will be Mr. Dhaneshwar Deonarine, Board Member – Caribbean Export, Deputy Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Industry & Commerce, Mr. Lance Hinds, Senior Vice-President, The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mr. Dhanpaul Dhanraj, Officer-in-Charge, The Guyana Office for Investment (GO-INVEST) and Joachim Vedsted Jakobsen, Head of Section Trade.
Delegation of the European Union to Guyana, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago,
and for the Dutch Overseas Countries and Territories.
The Direct Assistance Grant Scheme is a reimbursement grant funding facility specifically designed to provide financial assistance to legally registered firms, individuals and Business Support Organisations who have the potential to export their products and services.
In order to ensure CARIFORUM firms and BSOs are able to utilise the funds available Caribbean Export provides these workshops to increase the scheme’s awareness with the private sector and importantly, those attending the information and training sessions will gain a greater understanding of the process for applying for grant funding.
Ultimately, the workshop’s aim is to not only increase the number of applicants from Guyanese firms but also the number of successful applications of the Direct Assistance Grant Scheme.

In addition through delivering the training to Business Support Organisations (BSOs) it is anticipated that their capacity is increased to support and provide assistance to local firms when preparing applications for upcoming calls for proposals.
The delivery of this workshop is part of Caribbean Export’s overall objective to enhance the competitiveness among CARIFORUM’s private sector and Caribbean Export will continue to take the workshop across the region throughout May and June.
