Caribbean news. ST.GEORGE’S, GRENADA, June 16, 2014 – GIS: Hon. Emmalin Pierre, Parliamentary Representative for St. Andrew South East and Minister for Youth, Sports and Religious Affairs, has extended her congratulations to Miss Liselle A. Joseph on her recent and ongoing academic achievements and successes. Mrs Pierre said Liselle was one of her former students who excelled in everything she did from an early age.
The two have maintained a relationship throughout the years. During their conversation, Hon Pierre extended best wishes as Liselle sought to continue her studies.
Liselle, who is from the Marquis area of the St. Andrew South East Constituency, was a former student of Holy Cross RC School, St. Joseph’s Convent, Grenville and the T. A. Marryshow Community College. She taught briefly at St. Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School before beginning her studies at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech) in 2008.
She has completed a B.S. Aerospace Engineering, inducted December 2011 and a M.S. Aerospace Engineering with an emphasis in Aerodynamics, inducted May 2014 both from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech), Blacksburg, VA. Her thesis was: Transition Detection for Low Speed Wind Tunnel Testing using Infrared Thermography. She also conducted an additional research project: Active Flow Control System for Aerodynamic Testing in Virginia Tech Stability Wind Tunnel
Liselle is currently pursuing a PhD Aerospace Engineering with an emphasis in Aerodynamics, Expected December 2016 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University (Virginia Tech), Blacksburg, VA. Her Dissertation: Aerodynamic Effects of Surface Roughness on Wind Turbine Blades
It is likely that Liselle is the first Grenadian to complete this program and she is the only black woman out of about 7 women currently in the program.
Liselle has been undertaking research work in EXPERIMENTAL AERODYNAMICS in the VIRGINIA TECH STABILITY WIND TUNNEL (a testing facility for aircraft, submarine, wind turbines etc that tests for several companies and military agencies) and has since designed and built two systems for General Electric Power and Water. These systems have been tested for commercial application.
Liselle hopes to develop Grenada’s reputation as a source for great intellectuals, so that other Grenadians will not face the hardships and discouragement she did when pursuing ‘out-of-the-box’ careers.
Hon. Emmalin Pierre expressed congratulations on behalf of the Government and People of Grenada and indicated that she hopes that Liselle’s achievements will inspire all those who are seeking non-traditional careers.
