Hon. Sylvester Quarless

ST.GEORGE, GRENADA, 16th AUGUST, 2012_ The Government of Grenada is awaiting a confirmation of an invitation to the Management of LIAT and the Technical and Allied Workers Union TAWU for a meeting to discuss a resolution to the current industrial impasse.

Minister for Labour, Hon. Sylvester Quarless, says both sides have communicated their wish to undertake another round of dialogue in an attempt to find a negotiated and amicable resolution, prior to meeting with his Ministry as a third party.

He noted that TAWU officials are now in St. John’s, Antigua for that joint meeting.

“We are hopeful that this meeting between LIAT and TAWU will bring this impasse to an end. What is decided in the meeting will decide whether our proposal to meet with both sides will be necessary,” the Minister said Thursday.

He noted the importance of ensuring a resolution to the industrial dispute since disruption in travel has already affected the ability of the travelling public to get to their destinations, particularly after the Diaspora and other events held in Grenada during the past two weeks.

Prime Minister Hon. Tillman Thomas two weeks ago held discussions with his counterparts and LIAT shareholders, Hon Baldwin Spencer of Antigua-Barbuda and Hon. Ralph Gonsalves of St. Vincent and the Grenadines in an attempt to resolve the issue.
