Grenada which has recorded 127 positive coronavirus cases since March 2020 has joined the ranks of countries recording COVID-19 related deaths.

Health Minister Nicholas Steele is reported to have confirmed the death to local media in Grenada and promises to provide regular updates as information becomes available.

According to Minister Steele, the individual, originally from Birchgrove in St. Andrew was a long term resident in the United States. The man returned to Grenada for the Christmas holidays with his wife and was confirmed to have been cleared of coronavirus by registering a negative test for Covid-19 but unfortunately got sick with a lung related illness a few days later.

A local doctor in Grenville diagnosed him with pneumonia a common symptom of Covid-19.

Minister Steele has assured the media that the man was quickly tested and found to be positive with coronavirus and subsequently died from complications associated with an underlying respiratory health problem.

Information reaching CaribDirect.com suggest the man was a former employee of the Central Water Commission (CWC) also known as the National Water & Sewerage Authority (NAWASA).

The staff and management of CaribDirect.com extend condolences to the family of the deceased.
