Speaking with OBSERVER Sports on Sunday, Bird said the group is satisfied with the turnout and thanked the persons who participated. She also thanked Sir Viv for choosing Breast Friends as his charity.
She said breast cancer is prevalent and early detection is essential. Saturday was dubbed ‘Pink Day’ and all were asked to wear pink as part of the celebration of Sir Viv’s 60th birthday with Breast Friends.
Sir Viv led the walk all the way to the stadium. Apart from the Breast Friends group, a number of outstanding Antiguans participated. Some of them grew up with Sir Viv, including Hugh Gore – arguably the most successful Leeward Islands cricket manager; Zorol Bartley, the CEO of PIC Insurance and also Golf Experience; Senator Winston Williams, the Junior Minister of Sports; MPGaston Browne, the chairman of Antigua Labour Party; and Luther Lee.
The proceeds of Sir Viv’s 60th birthday celebrations will go to Breast Friends Cancer Awareness Group.
A golf tournament at Cedar Valley Golf Club and a dinner are part of the activities.
The double world record holder of Test and First Class cricket, Brian Charles Lara, along with Sir Ian Botham, Sir Richard Hadlee, and Sir Everton Weekes, are all expected to be on island to celebrate with Sir Viv.
