Don’t Live In A Negative Past To Plan A Positive Future

Pain, in one way or another we’ve all experienced it whether it was positive (having a baby)  or negative (emotional trauma). Hope we’ve all had and lost it. Love we’ve all tasted it in one form or another and again lost it. What do pain, hope and love all have in common? They are foundations that we build our lives upon which have the strong potential of shaping how we live today. Unfortunately where we’ve faced tumultuous events, disappointments and death these things can determine whether we rebuild our lives for the better or remain bitter.

As a child I encountered many types of abuse which lead to me making many poor decisions and forming relationships with toxic people. Why you ask did I do this? Well let me tell you, it was because the lenses that I saw life through were tainted with the need to protect myself, (nothing wrong with that) but it was the way I was doing it. The template for my life was built on not understanding that boundaries did need to be set but there was a healthy way of doing it. I wanted desperately to build a positive future but I was basing it on a negative past. I wanted to change my circumstances so badly so as a Christian lady I cried out to God for help and he indeed heard my cry and helped me.

The Bible says in Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7 that as a man thinks in his heart so is he. This means that whatever we think about we are it at that precise moment or in the very near future. For example, think about when you want to be lazy, what happens – you’re then lazy, the same principle applies when you want to be productive.

I reached a point in my life where I knew that what I wanted in my heart was not the reality I was living, I had to change, educate and get to know myself from God’s perspective. I prayed and asked Him what was it in me that was attracting the wrong people into my life. I had to change my spending habits if I didn’t wish to remain in poverty and develop new skills to enhance my earning capacity. I had to change the circle of people that were around me, planning a positive future started with me, and not blaming my negative past or people. It truly began with me, my thought patterns, speech had to change in order to have access to the right people, even well meaning friends had to go, I was brutal with myself.

I was hungry for a positive future and knew that the only way it could change was if I trusted God to help me through the metamorphosis and use the negatives as my strengthening pole where I could use not only to help myself but also others. Needless to say that the results that I have now are tremendous. I don’t see my negative past as a source of pain or an opportunity to remain bitter, but to be better. I want to challenge you today that if you want to build a positive future you must abandon the victim mentality and stop attending pity parties. It’s time for you to fly and be the person God created you to be, it’s in you to soar like an eagle and not be devoured like a chicken.

Until next time, remember you are beautiful and wonderfully made – With love Amanda x
