Former West Indies and Jamaica fast bowler, Darren Powell, has had a change of career. He has now ventured into the hot waters of politics. First I would like to say congratulations to Darren for making a successful transition from professional sports to active politics.
The reality is that for many professional athletes after their career has ended; they are unable to make the transition into another career. Thus, Mr. Powell stands in the company of only a few and I do wish him the best.
On the other hand, his choice of career is a bit eye raising. Then again we cannot escape the fact that sports and politics go hand in hand and so we should not be surprised that an athlete would want to venture into that arena. It would however be surprising if a politician decides to become an athlete! I mean they are known to live a not so healthy lifestyle where their diet is concerned.

Well, I do hope for one thing and that is that he has more success in his present career than he did in his former. Personally, I respected his efforts on the field but the fact is; he was an ordinary bowler and a politician is someone who is anything but ordinary.
He’s still a young man at the age of thirty three, which means that he could still have represented the West Indies for a few more years. Ok, ok I am going to leave Darren’s cricketing career after all it is over now.
But, I would like to make one suggestion to him and that is for him not to separate completely from cricket. In his new profession he will have direct access to a lot of resources. Thus, I am asking him to allocate some of those resources to local cricket competitions and to the general development of cricket in his area. Cricket is in need of rescuing and every effort will make the difference.
