Business news. Every company knows what is marketing; marketing has been carried out for many decades, but now there is a new twist to it. In the earlier days, marketing was only about handing out flyers or leaflets, having big billboards across the streets, and word of mouth, even though it still happens, this is now called Traditional Marketing.
With the new advancement of technology, new techniques have been developed to make marketing more cost effective, measurable and less time consuming. Now Marketing as a whole has two sides, Traditional and Digital. As things have gone more online, marketing has also taken a way into it and this is what we call Digital Marketing. Using the same or similar techniques we used traditionally but now market the products and services digitally. It is popularly called ‘Online Marketing’ or ‘Internet Marketing’. In the UK, we mostly call it ‘Digital Marketing’ whereas in the US, it’s commonly known as ‘Online Marketing’.
Digital marketing has become a more effective way of communicating with your target clients or potential customers. As per the statistics, digital marketing has kept growing through 2012 and 2013, and will continue to grow even higher in 2014 onwards.
There are two main techniques used in this type of marketing:
- The Pull Technique: this is where a customer is seeking information through web searches, websites and blogs. So depending on how the user searches for a product, service or information, your website or blog will be displayed when the user searches for a term or phrase that is specific to you and your company profile and business activities. In this type of marketing, the content on your website needs to be interesting and appealing to the audience.
- The Push Technique: this is where the company or marketer is pushing their brand, service or products in front of millions of customers. This could be done organically or via paid advertising. Paid advertising takes less time and will get you the right exposure for a short period of time until your budget for it runs out whereas organic advertising takes time to build up an audience but is more effective and stable over longer periods of time.
This form of marketing is not something new but is gaining rapid interest and will grow even more enormously in the next few years. Until next time thank you for reading and do comment if you have any questions.
