Community news. Founded in 1981, the Black Cultural Archives’ collects, preserves and celebrates African and African-Caribbean history and culture in Britain. We are opening a beautiful new space in the heart of Brixton on Windrush Square on 24 July 2014.

Join us on Windrush Square for an evening of cultural performances, from spoken word artists AkalaFloetic LaraEl Crisis and conscious calypso poet Alexander D Great to harmonic jazz saxophonist Lascelles James.

Inspirational hip-hop performances from the legendary Jonzi D and street dancers Rowdy (choreographer for 2013 Olympic Ceremony) and Mechanikool (2013 semi-finalist on television series Got to Dance) come together to perform a mesmerising collaboration.

Infused with powerful speeches from the international speaker Dr. Doudou Diene, leading academic and historian Dr. Hakim Adi and Professor Gus John. Come and celebrate the opening of a unique space dedicated to Black  heritage in Britain.

Free event on Windrush Square, Brixton.

‘A goldmine of information about the Black cultural identity.’
