Anchor Yourself In God

We’re living in turbulent and perilous times. An age where we do not know what’s going to happen in the next second, rather than the next hour. These serious moments will now form part of the history of the earth, and will make previous historical events appear lame and tame. The flagrant disregard now held for one another, particularly toward those who are strangers is normalised and accepted as being a part of life. Last week it came to my attention that a Senator  in the State Capitol of West Virginia, USA had no issue in placing his dog’s backside in the air (as part of his speech) and publicly declared that Bette Midler should kiss it. His behaviour and comments earned him a standing ovation, needless to say my spirit was grieved – I was truly appalled and disgusted.¹

Closer to home in our communities violence among young people continues to increase, loved ones are passing away at rapid rates, unemployment, rebellion it goes on and on and on! In these rough days we must know how to anchor ourselves in God, because only He is the anchor of our souls ². He will keep us in joy and peace when we draw near to Him in prayer and faith. The good Shepherd in Psalm 23, is able to lead us beside the still waters, restore our souls and lead us on paths of righteousness. So how do we come to the place of knowing that despite the turmoil going on all around us, we can be safe in the knowledge that God will protect and provide?

To anchor our life in God means to set and make every decision concerning our lives in accordance with His Word and Spirit. The first step is to abandon a life of living and walking in religion, just going to church is not going to cut it nor is being a hypocrite. Secondly, we have to abide with Him from a spiritual heart position, on a one on one daily basis. Thirdly – we must cultivate a personal, disciplined prayer life of obedience, and that can be started immediately. It’s easy all it takes is for you to say and believe the scripture which states that “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved”.³

By just taking these three steps every arena of your life will be greatly impacted, whether it be personal, public and church. As a Pastor it’s my calling to teach people how to walk with God and live in His grace and mercy, so when the storms of life come instead of us being downtrodden by those situations, we can overcome them and be a source of hope to others.

Anchor your life in God alone you will not regret it, He desires to empower you with His strength not only for these extremely weird times, but the additional benefits is that you’ll walk in love, joy and peace. Come – He loves and is waiting for you!

Until next time, remember you are beautiful and wonderfully made – With love Amanda x
