Currently I’m in Ireland, enjoying great company, food and weather but I wasn’t expecting the unexpected. I’ve swam in a lake, dipped myself in a canal, done a 20km bike ride and engaged with hundreds of people ministering the gospel. If anyone would have told me I’d enjoy doing this type of thing even last year I would have said “you’re off your head”. However, though those things were totally unexpected, I’ve learnt something new about myself. I realised that swimming in a lake was fun and not scary, I hadn’t ridden a bike in over twenty years and the immense joy I felt was great, plus realised how much I loved speaking to strangers on the street, and to top it all those same people liked speaking to me too!
Normally I’m an A-Z planner, everything has to be organised as chaos and I do not work well together, but the above events were totally out of my character and absolutely incredible. Special memories have now been made and a new chapter of life has begun. I’m asking you that if you’re a person like myself who likes things in a particular order, let go of those reins and allow unexpected good things to enter your life, the results are that you’ll have a fresh perspective on life, feel better and stronger within yourself and thoroughly enjoy life a lot more.
In the bible in the book of Ruth¹ we read the story of Ruth who was from the land of Moab, her husband had died and also her mother in-law Naomi’s husband. Devastated by recent events both women left Moab as there was nothing left nor reason for them to stay in this land, and headed back to Bethlehem where Naomi originally came from. Ruth was not sure how she’d be received by the Bethlemites but she made room for the unexpected by being flexible and going to a new land, culture and people with Naomi, in essence to begin a new life.
To cut a long story short despite the hardships she encountered, Ruth eventually met her husband Boaz and had a son called Obed who is in the lineage of Jesus Christ. It wasn’t an easy ride for Ruth but she made room for the unexpected and her life where once was filled with sorrow, now became glorious and she’s remembered up to this day in the bible. I encourage you to make room in your life for the unexpected, be open and you will see unusual, magnificent things happen you truly deserve it!
Until next time, remember you are beautiful and wonderfully made – With love Amanda x
