Social commentary. We shouldn’t have to apologize for how we were made. It’s not like we had any say in the matter. We breathed and saw ourselves in this body- flaws and all.
It’s sad that as humans we find it fun to criticize those innate areas and actually expect the victim of the criticism to do something about it.
“Oh, I’m laughing at you because you have big eyes, you’re fat (when you actually have big bones) and because you talk funny” and so many people end up wanting to change things they can not or shouldn’t all to cease the laughter… what’s heartbreaking though is when people use those innate features to hate you.
One such feature is the colour of your skin- you’re detested because you’re black or white or in-between. You’re even killed for it and when that happens, you’re forced to take sides. But, today I don’t want to take any sides.
If we all shred our bodies and that spirit/soul that resides inside should be nude, do you think that our souls will be coloured too? To me, whatever resides inside would have no hues and if it does then it’ll be the same because we are after human beings first and everything else after.
And so today I choose to focus on the similarities and that when I lay eyes on another person, I see them as a person with similar needs, goals and funny bones. We can laugh together and cry at the same sad scene and get upset for the same reasons and love one another for the same qualities.
I’d like to think that we are more alike than we are different and can still appreciate and respect another person’s differences because our similarities and differences are what make the world so colourful. I’m comforted by the similarities and intrigued by the differences and find no reason to bring down another person because of such things.
I’m happy that I have friends of all breeds and can love them without such shallow conditions. And if this world should ever decide to ultimately take sides then I’ll stand in the middle until the end of my time.
