Dear members,
Wow! What a year! I am tempted to say a year to forget, but I am certain that 2020 will be a year that will never fade from our memories.
Sadly, we have had to bear witness to the passing of a number of longstanding and loved members over the year, including David Emmanuel Cadette, Carol Charles, Mary Delicie, Judy Edgar, Gelmina Gideon, Cynthia Gustave, Noela Haywood, Ken Heywood, John Louis, Silma Martindale, Michael Mathurin, Veronica Norbert, and Jackie Wishart. We rejoice in the lives they lived, and we retain their memories in our hearts. We pray that they now rest in eternal peace with our Father.
Whilst accepting that we have not been able to carry out any income earning events, or fully collect member subscriptions, due to the limitation on the services we could offer, our financial position remains stable and in good order.
Together with the Union of St. Lucian Overseas Associations (USLOA) we are arranging a Christmas party on Zoom this Sunday December 27th from 8pm – midnight. We may not be able to physically be together today due to the restrictions some of us face by being in Tier 4, but we hope we can use technology to see each other via our computer screens or mobile phones during the Christmas season.
On the evening there will be live performances by Invader; Teddyson John; Kayo; Chazz; Gozilay and Boo Hinkson, as well as DJ’s from Canada, USA, Saint Lucia and Mosty Gee representing the UK.
This event will also be used to promote the “Levern Spencer Fund” to enable Levern to afford the costs of top class training here in the UK in order to compete in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
Levern is undoubtedly Saint Lucia’s most accomplished track and field athlete and a role model for all Saint Lucians. The Covid pandemic has halted all professional athletic competition and therefore Levern’s main source of income, putting at risk her training and coaching programmes, which are crucial to her competitive success.
The event will also bring together St Lucians at home and around the world to party and celebrate.
We know that Zoom parties aren’t for everyone but if you would still like to help, you can donate at: http://www.gofundme.com/f/
So, on behalf of the Executive Team of the St Lucian Association of London (1963), we wish all our members and friends of the Association a happy and safe Christmas and look forward to seeing you in 2021.
