LONDON, 28th August 2012 – 19 months ago H.E. Garvin Nicholas, High Commissioner for Trinidad and Tobago, to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, promised to produce an ambitious Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Village to celebrate Trinidad and Tobago’s 50th Anniversary of Independence.

The High Commissioner envisaged that a cultural exploration of Trinidad and Tobago would be the ideal forum to leverage on the visitors to the London Olympics. On Saturday the High Commissioner closed the curtains on a highly successful venture that placed the art and culture of this twin-island Republic on centre stage.
From the 26th July to the 25th August the Trinidad and Tobago Cultural Village was open to all. It was a truly ambitious venture, “We, the staff at the High Commission, have never done this before. This was a new project for all of us, and I want to thank them for a job well done,” said His Excellency.
The Culture Fest closed much like it began with a celebration of the music of Trinidad and Tobago. An all star-cast of Ronald Samm, Martina Laird, Renee Castle, Felix Cross, Dominique LeGendre and others sang many of our best loved folk songs including Mango Vert and Doggie, Doggie from the Edric Connor Collection.
When the concert ended, His Excellency, the performers and the audience stayed back for one last lime at the Trinidad and Tobago Village. It was their one last chance to enjoy that special Trinbagonian hospitality before life in London returns to normal.
