After winning the Digicel’s Rising Stars competition, Romain Virgo just propelled straight onto the music scene and never stopped going.  Hit song after hit song, he sang his way into the hearts of Jamaicans, young and old.  Recently he has been blowing up and has been on tour all over the world, including places that other artists before him only dreamed of going to.

Virgo was recently honoured at the recently held Linkage Awards in New York.  This award show honours vintage artists such as the Marcia Griffiths of the world.  Therefore, for Romain Virgo to be a young artist being honoured at such an awards show, it goes to show the reach that this young man has.  He breaks the age barrier and appeals to all sectors of the society.  His music is clean and refresh but at the same time entertaining.  It is music that my mother and I can listen to at the same time.  His songs do not have nor need edited versions; however persons who love songs that need editing can still enjoy what he has to offer.

He appeals to what some call the hardcore dancehall fans, that is, those fans who love dancehall in its purest and rawest form.  The type of people who enjoy dancehall songs that are about taboo topics and will likely be banned by the broadcasting commission or radio and television stations.  He manages to capture this sector without singing that type of music.  And he also appeals to the conservative music fans, this is, those fans who are the opposite of the previously mentioned group.  This group prefers to hear songs about lighter topics, or topics that are easier to talk about, such as falling in love or corrupt politicians etc… overall topics that almost everybody can agree on.  But whichever end of the extreme music lovers fall, they are sure to enjoy the musical style of Virgo.
