The film which was shot in England and the Gambia, received 3 nominations at the 2011 Africa Movie Academy Awards
With the objective of the show being to highlight the accomplishments of Caribbean entrepreneurs in the United Kingdom with some reference to what obtains in the Caribbean, careful attention was placed on unearthing real or perceived disparities in pay, status, and opportunities between the genders.
Special guests included BBC 1 The Apprentice 2014 Runner Up and hosiery entrepreneur Bianca Miller;
Chair of ActionAid UK Margaret Casely-Hayford; Best selling author of “Entrepreneur to Ultrapreneur”, professional speaker, business coach and serial entrepreneur, Julian Hall; social entrepreneur who founded at the age of 25, the nonprofit organization, The Safety Box, which uses grassroots methods to interrupt violent behaviour, build entrepreneurship and foster achievement in young people using alternative curriculum in British schools, Nathaniel Peat; and founder / chief executive officer of CaribDirect Multi-Media a company that focuses on economically empowering Caribbean people in the diaspora through trade and investment focused events and media, David F. Roberts.
The show was presented by former Miss Jamaica UK 2013 Gemma Feare who recently took over the reins from former presenter, the Award-winning TV/RadioPresenter | Producer | Activist | Mentor | Regular on ITV, Leah Charles King.
Gemma skillfully coordinated what appeared to be a seamless string of live interviews without a hitch, demonstrating her capacity to deliver fast paced and intricate television programming with relative ease and professionalism. She was not phased in the slightest by the egos and testosterone that consumed the studio showing clearly who was in charge.
The guests all did a fantastic job in bringing to bear their individual accounts of what being an entrepreneur is like and for the female guests (Bianca and Margaret) what they saw as the main challenges of being a woman in a predominantly male dominated ‘lifestyle’, business.
