Home African Caribbean St Lucian Nina Compton Leaves Scarpetta

Caribbean news. Nina Compton, who fascinated the United States on this season’s Top Chef is leaving Scarpetta at the Fontainbleau Miami Beach.

Although Compton didn’t win the competition, she came in a close second and won the coveted “Fan Favorite” title.

After the competition, Compton returned to Scarpetta to much acclaim.

Although she revealed to Short Order that she was fielding offers, she made it clear she was happy with her gig with celebrity chef Scott Conant, saying, “Right now, we’re jammed for the next couple of months, so I’m taking it one day at a time, enjoying all the people who come to see me. For a long-term goal, I would definitely open a restaurant if something does open up for me, but for right now I’m good where I am. I’m really happy and just enjoying the moment.”

The chef tweeted her departure earlier today, saying simply:

It’s been a hell of a run. Love you @conantnyc @Fontainebleau and @ScarpettaMiami thank you for everything xo

The Fountainebleau issued the following statement:

“Nina Compton has stepped down from her role as chef de cuisine of Scarpetta at Fontainebleau Miami Beach. She has been an amazing Team Member and we wish her the best in all future endeavors. Effective immediately, Marlon Rambaran has been appointed the chef de cuisine at Scarpetta, we expect a seamless transition in the restaurant’s kitchen.”

As early as a few weeks ago, we spoke with chef Compton who was hosting a dinner with fellow Top Chef “cheftestant” Shirley Chung. Together, they mused over a hypothetical restaurant they might or might not open. We can only hope that the talented toques are really working on a collaboration — and that it’s in Miami.
