Benna Boys Lose Second Straight

Antigua & Barbuda’s Benna Boys were defeated 1-0 by the St Kitts & Nevis senior national team when they met in a friendly encounter in St Kitts on Saturday.

The lone strike of the contest came in minute 26 when Tiran Hanley put the hosts ahead from close-range.

It was Antigua & Barbuda’s second defeat within three days after going down, 4-0, to the visiting Trinidad and Tobago Soca Warriors at Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Grounds last Wednesday.

The manager of the senior national team, Fernando “Nando” Abraham, said despite the loss, the players showed improvement and provided the management staff with something to build on going forward.

“I think it was a much better performance but unfortunately we didn’t win the match. We created the opportunities to score but we just did not capitalize so that is something we have to work on going forward. The guys played with heart and they showed commitment,” he said.

The former national defender revealed that the management staff would meet with the FA’s executive on Monday to be “debriefed” before revealing what their next move will be.

He said, however, they are looking towards the start of the United Soccer Leagues (USL).

“The Barracuda season starts in about a month and as you know, more than 90 per cent of the national team plays for Barracuda so we are looking towards that as part of our preparations as well,” he said.

Antigua & Barbuda were without the England-based players in their trip to St Kitts who are preparing for the 2012 Digicel Caribbean Cup.
