Community Shame: Caribbeans steal City Council’s Ceremonial Flag?

Malcolm Marshal Memorial Organiser – Sted wallen

There are many things we Caribbeans have been proud of as a people in recent time, particularly the just concluded London Olympics where the likes of Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Cuba and the Cayman Islands excelled.

But it seems this collective pride has either not meant anything to some selfish non-community spirited individuals or the euphoria of the Caribbean achievements had passed before the true meaning of the Games had actually sunk in.

Last Sunday, August 28th a celebrity cricket match was held yet again after 14 years for the entertainment and enjoyment of Caribbeans and friends of the Caribbean at the Handsworth Park in Birmingham. This event, the Malcolm Marshall Memorial Cup, organised by veteran sports organiser / promoter Sted Wallen and supported by many private sector and community organisations including the Birmingham City Council was by all accounts, a resounding success.

However the single most distressing act took place at the end of the day’s

Birmingham City Council Flag (Gone Missing)

activities when someone stole the Birmingham City Council’s Ceremonial Flag. Now this flag is no ordinary flag, it has very special sentimental and ceremonial value to the Council.

The management and staff of CaribDirect implore anyone who has it or knows someone who might have it to please return it or assist Mr Sted Wallen to collect it so he can return it to its rightful place.

Needless to say Mr Wallen is very sad and upset about this situation and appeals to your sense of kindness and community spirit to return the flag to him. He is prepared to offer a reward in exchange for the flag. We look forward to your help. Sted Wallen can be reached at [email protected] or on 07579632543.
