My
Today we are going to the island that has 365 white sandy beaches and coves – one for every day of the year. We are talking about the island of Antigua. Antigua is located in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean and is about 14 miles long and 11 miles wide.
When visiting Antigua you will be spoilt for choice when deciding where to bask in the sun. However, Antigua has more to offer than just sandy beaches and today I want to share Antigua’s annual sailing week.
This premier sailing regatta takes place on 29th April – 4th May 2012 and the six day event attracts regular visitors from all around the world. So what can you expect when you visit this event which congregates at Admiral Horatio Nelson’s 18thCentury Caribbean base – English Harbour? This is a competitive racing event which creates a buzz in the hot Antiguan air. The captivating sight of 200 yachts on the clear blue waters ready to participate is memorable.
Regardless of whether you are a sailing fan the buzz and excitement of this event will keep you entertained. Just like attending a cricket match in the Caribbean is not just about cricket – the same applies to this sailing regatta it is not all about racing. During these six days experience beach parties, barbecues, great food, cocktail parties, street parades and the official send off, Lord Nelson Ball. Last year saw Maxi Priest perform live at the event village.
Take a break from the beaches and join in the lively fun and the breathtaking bays of English Harbour and Falmouth Harbour at the 2012 Antigua sailing regatta.
