Home African Caribbean It’s Carnival Time, Jamaica: Get loose!

Caribbean news. It’s time to jump and whine, wave and wiggle to the sweet sounds of soca music! Every year, commencing from February into April, the streets of Jamaica are filled with the soca fever. On Fridays, all roads lead to Mas Camp- Arthur Wint Drive, Kingston where patrons wore their short shorts and tees to portray their “worst behaviour” at Bacchanal Friday titled “Untamed”.

CaribDirect had to get a personal feel of bacchanal Fridays. At 11 pm we arrived and the party was in full swing, patrons were loosening their waistlines and all smiles. Hit after hit, the dj spinned and the patrons responded feverishly. Sometime after, it was show-time and two fluffy divas took the stage to showcase their best whine. It was a comedic, entertaining moment.

At 2 am when it was time to close off, patrons still wanted to dance. We danced our way through the exit.

Throughout the soca season, several other parties will be going on such as water, paint and beach parties. On April 12, the season will end with a bang, i.e., the infamous Road March.
Will you be there?
