The Economics of Afrikan people in the West began with our enslavement – as objects, products and units of production. We struggled, resisted and rebelled until we abolished this dehumanising and derogatory status. Although the physical shackles may have gone, we have not been able to abolish the system that perpetrated it. It has now re-enslaved us structured in subservience.
What is to be done about this situation?
We welcome you to this week’s PASCF workshop as Bro Devon, activist, organiser, intellectual and member of the Brixton Community for over 50 years, shares his unique insights into ‘The Economics of the Afrikan Community’, analyses our present circumstances and puts forward options for the future.

Presenter: Bro Devon, (Aka Brixton Griot) arrived in Brixton as a youth from Jamaica over 50 years ago to join his parents. He has a longstanding and close connection with Brixton’s community of Afrikan heritage. As a scholar, historian and community activist he continues to be keenly involved in activities working to establish long term cultural, historical, social, spiritual and economic institutions to serve our communities.
He is the Director of Lambeth Business Advisory, a business services agency offering advice, support and consultancy to those setting up, expanding and diversifying their organisations. It is a successor body to ones that have been operating since the 1970s helping the local community to create and sustain its own economic activity. It has created and operated the Co-op Centre just off Brixton Road since 1985, that has been an incubator for some of the most creative and successful businesses established in the area over the past 30 years.
