Caribbean news. The story of the triangular slave trade and its implications to modern life for Africans and Caribbeans has long been a sore topic and one that has met with opposition, resistance and 
dismissal by the British establishment.
However in spite of the dismissive attitude of the British establish and the many recent revelations of the direct links to slavery by Prime Minister David Cameron and actor Benedict Cumberbatch (12 Years a slave); a courageous and superbly qualified scholar challenged the racist views of a few guests of the BBC Sunday morning show, ‘The Big Question.’
Guyanese scholar and leader of the PARCOE Esther Stanford-Xosei, internationally acclaimed Reparationist, Jurisconsult, dynamic community advocate, radio broadcaster and co-founder of PARCOE (Pan-African Reparations Coalition in Europe) spoke eloquently and confidently to the topic, ‘Should we pay reparations for slavery’.
Esther armed with the knowledge and empirical data about the history and legacy of Slavery was not to be daunted by the skeptics and cynics in the room. She unleashed a barrage of uncomfortable truths about the enterprise that was largely responsible for the wealth and majesty of the British Empire at the expense of Africans.
She said, ‘Slavery is not just looked at in terms of the Diaspora, it is also looked at in terms of the continuing colonialism and neo colonialism and it’s something that can be taught from many dimensions…’ Esther also quite vehemently rebutted the notion that all peoples in the UK are descendents of people who were once slaves. her left hook and right upper cut response left the room stunned…See this spectacular performance below: Well done Esther!
